When creating new designs, we often look through the collection of images for an element that will inspire a new concept and effectively tie it all together. It’s important when doing this to meet the preferences of the client, since they will certainly be aware if there is any significant deviation. In this new design for New York photographer, Chris Chen, of Dynasty Weddings, we chose a bold background color for various pages, pulled from the bride’s bouquet. Then to tie it all together we added a calligraphic-style graphic inspired by the chinese embellishment appearing in the bottom image of page two. Note how the graphic continues the line running through the two hearts. A small detail, but a good example of the little things we do in our designs to make them extra special.

We are very pleased to be presenting in this episode of What’s in the Box the gorgeous album slipcovers of ChrysQ. Created by Christina Q and her photographer husband Ben Q, these are truly innovative, unique, eye-catching compliments to a beautiful album. How could your clients not be impressed by such a presentation, especially if it’s an unexpected surprise?! Take a look at these beautiful covers, then be sure to visit Christina and Ben at the Forbeyon booth at WPPI!
Always seeking ways to expand upon the What’s in the Box concept, we asked Christina to answer a few short questions for us and our viewers to compliment our video review. Their website is very detailed and informative, so be sure to check it out!
DD: Tell us how you got started in such a specialty as album slip covers.
Christina: The idea for ChrysQ’s Luxe Slipcovers began with a special request from my husband, BenQ. He asked me if I could come up with a really fashion-forward way to present his very first client with her album. I wanted something I knew would totally surprise her and create a lasting impression. My background is fashion design, so immediately I thought “why not make a slipcover that looks more like a fashion accessory than simply a means for storage?” When I saw our first client’s reaction to our slipcovers, I was instantly hooked. I wanted to share my passion and add my creative take on “photography fashion” to this amazing industry.
DD: What do you enjoy most about your work?
Christina: The best part of my job is receiving the emails from our overjoyed clients after they’ve received their slipcovers. I’ll admit I giddily await each one.
Another aspect I’m in love with is when I can realize someone’s ideal slipcover. I want my clients and their clients to absolutely love what they see and feel.
DD: How did you acquire your skills?
Christina: Fashion actually runs in my family. My mom went to fashion school and I followed those footsteps (I actually met Ben in art school). The entire time I was in school I thought I would enter the accessory and handbag industry. So when I was asked for a trendy method for album presentation, it was no coincidence they resembled fashion accessories. I believe our slipcovers have that distinct fashion flair to pump up our industry.
DD: What do you anticipate for the future of ChrysQ?
Christina: Wow! I have high expectations for ChrysQ’s! We’re always seeking out new trends, listening to the community, sharpening our skills, all to advance our industry. We want to refresh the way albums are presented, but are also interested in the way people and their various products are presented. We’re creating tools to enhance the talents and uniqueness of each photographer. Our purpose is to be part of that total package you present whether you’re in front of your client or not.
~ Thank you, Christina, for sending us your beautiful samples for review. We wish you the very best!!
No doubt, these high-quality, finely made slipcovers receive top scores. Everything about them is excellent! Overall: Quality:Innovation: Wow! Factor:Packaging:
We recently completed a lovely Baby Book design for photographer Sandy Summers Russell of Summerland Photography. Baby Books give us an opportunity to add design elements and colors unlike those we normally include in a wedding album design. Sandy’s gorgeous photographs are emphasized well in this quaint theme using abundant negative space and a touching graphic.
